Save Your Life!

Everyone knows the hot topic in the news today is healthcare.  We hear about it every time we turn on the TV. Part of the discussion has been about revamping the way medical records are kept.

A couple of years ago, I decided I would be an advocate for my own healthcare. I made a file and now keep copies of any medical records I have, just in case. What prompted me to do this was I met a physician at the Florida Publishers Association “College” who gave me a handy little book. Her book is called “Patient Handbook to Medical Care” by J. L. Richardson, M.D.

The book emphasizes the importance of keeping a medical diary and records, as well as what you can expect in routine exams and medical tests and an explanation of specialists. Now I know what a nephrologist is! The book is not riddled with medical terminology. It is written in “plain English” with just enough information but not too much.

As Dr. Richardson says “An informed patient has a much better chance of remaining a healthy patient.” For more information on her book, go to www.mypatienthandbook.com

Dr. Richardson, thanks for sharing your expertise! Your book should be in every American household. Hope to see you again at another publishing conference!
