“Each day I am thankful for; nights turned into morning, friends that turned into family, dreams that turned into reality and likes that turned into love.” ~ Ritu Ghatourey
I’ve been swept up in a whirlwind of fulfilling things since arriving on the East Coast. It all began with attending a social event of a book club group with women who reside in and around the historic area surrounding TaylorsIsland in Dorchester County, Maryland. The Grace Foundation is restoring churches and doing work on the island to preserve the history of the churches and schoolhouses. http://bit.ly/16Ezcex.
“The Postmistress” by Sarah Blake, a book I recently read and adored, is on the reading booklist for the book club for this coming summer. Based on a small town sea-side community during World War 2, the post office was a hub of activity, and the spinster postmistress knows secrets which if told, will change the lives of some of the residents. If you haven’t read this book, I highly recommend it.
Then I traveled to the Boston area to attend the beautiful wedding of our niece on my husband’s side of the family. It was so wonderful to see the bride and her sister (our second Leonard niece), who are now both married adults.
We also spent a lovely evening in Newburyport, Massachusetts, and had dinner at Loretta’s. The harbor area in Newburyport has changed greatly since last time I visited many years ago. Full of wonderful restaurants with varied cuisine, we also went art gallery hopping. As a Mother’s Day present, my husband bought me a New England artisan-crafted necklace from Annie’s of Newburyport. Then we finished the evening with dessert at a fantastic coffee shop complete with musical entertainment featuring a sole independent musician playing the guitar.
Join me tomorrow on my journey back to Vermont, my state of residence for more than thirty years. I was greeted by “Miss America” of the independent publishing industry! She’s quite a package! Well-built, for future developments.
Here are just a few pictures from my fulfilling travels:

“If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him.” ~ John F Kennedy
Europe is an old civilization compared to the United States of America. Tourists from all over the world flock to museums in Rome, Paris, Venice, London and other cities as part of their European vacations. The Louvre has approximately seven to eight million visitors every year. People enjoy taking in a wide variety of art reflected in paintings and other artifacts – from Celtic art to the Renaissance and Baroque eras, as well as Neoclassical, Romantic and the Impressionistic period. A chance to see architectural elements many hundreds of years old, are reason enough to visit European cities – turrets, towers, flying buttresses, steeples, spires, vaulted ceilings and gargoyles, embellish the buildings.
If you are a connoisseur of European culture, there is a new blog that you will enjoy called Castles and Coffeehouses: Exploring European Art and History. http://castlesandcoffeehouses.com/. Blog writer C S Carley shares all sorts of interesting information geared around the humanities. And of course, she can’t mention European art and history without including just a little bit of how religion fits into the overall picture. It played such a major role in the world’s development during the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Travel along with C S Carley as she shares her knowledge of places abroad and finds all kinds of fulfilling things to explore and write about.

“Your intellect may be confused but your emotions never lie to you.” ~ Roger Ebert
Siskel and Ebert, Leonard Maltin, some of the most well-known film critics of our time. Yesterday, Roger Ebert passed away at 70 years of age. Leonard Maltin said of Ebert’s death “The thing I’m remembering now, most, is his bravery,” referring to the health challenges he faced in recent years.
Can you imagine how many hours Ebert spent over the course of his forty-six year career in the screening room? His passion was watching movies and critiquing them. A fulfilling career but, not every production he watched was worthy of his attention. I’m sure he viewed his fair share of movies that were poorly edited, had holes in the plot, scripts without continuity, casting mistakes, visual effects blunders and acting goofs.
His film reviews were highly regarded. Albeit sometimes very spirited and outspoken in his independent thoughts, he was the first film critic to win a Pulitzer Prize. Roger Ebert was also author of twenty books, including I Hated, Hated, Hated this Movie.
The 15th annual Ebert Film Festival begins on April 17 at the Virginia Theatre in Champaign, Illinois. What Ebert called “one of the most beautiful films ever made,” Terrence Malick’s 1978 “Days of Heaven” will appropriately open the film festival. It won an Oscar for best cinematography.
To read more about this man who had a bright mind, a very observant eye and did so much to promote good films and the art of good filmmaking, please visit his website http://www.rogerebert.com/.

“While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.” ~ Unknown
At the beginning of the week I posted a blog called Bundled Energy. The gist of the writing was that positive energy brings good things about. If you missed it, here is the link. http://bit.ly/XirgZP.
Twenty five years ago, a bundle of joy, was placed in my arms, swaddled in a blanket. A gift that has showered my husband and me with blessings in so many ways. What a pleasure it has been to watch our bundle of energy grow and develop, from newborn to an adult, now thriving of his own accord. Our dreams have been fulfilled and the arrival that day was the birth of our son.
Today, we wish Marc a fantastic Film Friday, although for him, everyday is Film Friday. In retrospect, with the path his life has taken, perhaps he should have arrived between the covers of a DVD. Just kidding! http://bit.ly/UJrK73.
Happy 25th Birthday, Marc, on Monday! We are overwhelmed by our love for you and you make us proud, everyday. Have a wonderful year ahead and enjoy the Academy Awards on Sunday night.

Embracing Life and Career in N.M.
Putting his energy to work & reaping the rewards of staying focused on his dreams.

Appreciate the gift of every day – ordinary and extraordinary!

Film Friday: The Oscars
“Movies are something people see all over the world because there is a certain need for it.” ~ Wim Wenders

Say! Look at that! I have been invited to the Oscars this year. The Academy award winning movies and the range of nominations is extensive from best picture, to best actor/actress, to best animated feature, best editor, top visual effects and sound artists and so much more – a total of twenty four categories.
Here is a list of nominees for best feature film. How many did you get the opportunity to see?
- Silver Linings Playbook
- Lincoln
- Zero Dark Thirty
- Amour
- Beasts of the Southern Wild
- Django Unchained
- Les Miserables
- Argo
- Life of Pi
I did not get a chance to see all of these films but of those I saw, my personal favorite was Les Miserables, without a doubt. Most disappointing? Life of Pi, however, the visual effects were fulfilling; perhaps a prize will come in that category.
Did you know there is an official Oscars app. that can be downloaded so you will not miss any of the action? Thanks to the digital age, anyone in any community with internet coverage can get exclusive video and the latest news on the Oscars. To learn more about the app for your cell phone, please visit http://oscar.go.com/.
Have a great weekend everyone, I am hoping to take in one more movie on the list this weekend, and that would be Lincoln. From the great reviews it has gotten, my favorite pick may be changed once I see it.

“Only one thing is impossible for God: To find sense in any copyright law on the planet.” ~Mark Twain
Welcome back. Today, we will provide you with very useful information. If it is not helpful to you now, it may be in the future, so bookmark and save it.
A new book, independently published, titled Copyright Clearance for Creatives: A Guide for independent publishers and their support providers has just been placed in my bookcase, on an eye-level shelf, right where I can find and reach for it easily.
A desperately needed resource book, the publication includes very valuable information on things like:
- Sample letters for seeking permission on using quotes, photos, song lyrics.
- Laws and regulations regarding use of copyrighted content
- How to create a tracking log for permissions
- On-line search sites for obtaining copyright information for periodicals, books, music and images such as maps, labels, cartoons and fine art images.
- Visual art permissions agreements
- The differences between public domain, stock and private collection images.
Husband and wife team, Joyce L Miller, and Dr. Daniel C Miller, authors of Copyright Clearance for Creatives, provide leading edge information on rules and regulations and licensing of digital content. This book will need to be updated frequently to keep pace with ever changing copyright regulations. Thus, it is available in e-book format, so that it can be easily revised and kept current.
A little background about the qualifications of the authors – Joyce L. Miller is a consultant to independent publishers and is co-founder and co-owner of Integrated Writers Services. http://www.writerservices.biz/. She has over twenty years experience in publishing, copyright and copyright compliance including being an intellectual property manager for NASA’s Classroom of the Future.
Dr. C. Daniel Miller has served as dean of the Colorado Independent Publishers Association College (CIPA) and past president of the organization. www.cipabooks.com He has been “a technology consultant to architects to computer design and telecommunications
infrastructures.” He also served as Executive Director of NASA’s Classroom of the Future and has been a university professor and department chair. His latest venture is “a project manager and researcher to discover relevance in large unstructured data.”
For every writer, musician, filmmaker, or any other individual involved in the art, marketing or design field, Copyright Clearance for Creatives should be in their library, either in paperbound copy or on as an e-book acquisition.

“Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain. “ ~Author Unknown
The Sundance Film Festival is on my mind this week. If you have been to Park City, Utah, the venue of this independent film festival, you know the area is surrounded by the beauty of the Wasatch Mountains and the historic downtown is steep with artistic flair. The screening venues for the event, such as the Egyptian Theatre, entertained locals from the “rough and tumble days of exploration and active mining.”
The festival, founded by actor Robert Redford in 1981 brings together, every winter, scores of people who love independent films, as well as people who work in the industry. What began with 10 emerging filmmakers decades ago has grown and evolved into one of the most respected film-award contests in the country. To read more about the history of the Sundance Film Festival, please visit this link. http://bit.ly/VVfrFe.
A few of the many films that will be screened throughout the week are:
- Austenland
- The Spectacular Now
- Twenty Feet from Stardom
- American Promise
To read about other official slections, films that were juried into this festival, please visit http://www.sundance.org/
This morning, my husband and I would like to send a shout out to our favorite filmmaker, who will be working very hard at the festival, behind the film camera. Hopefully, he will remember to take a few minutes to enjoy and take it all in! He deserves it, he’s successfully climbed mountains in his career field, since before high school, to get there! http://bit.ly/UJrK73.

“The key to a healthy society is a thriving community of storytellers.” ~ Franco Sacchi
Yesterday our blog was about New Year’s resolutions, and the need for Americans to add PLAY MORE to their list of priorities for 2013. “Play more” means something different to everyone, depending on our own interests and hobbies.
Last fall I enrolled in a creative writing course, just for the fun of it. I enjoyed it immensely; it was enlightening. As a result of the class, I feel as if my brain has been fertilized and my garden pot of memories has sprouted and grown. I have thoughts that would be rewarding to share with others, in a way that never occurred to me before. Funny, how that has happened.
I made a decision for myself this morning. Creative Writing II has been added to my “to do” list this winter. I have an independent publishing project I’m pondering; I wish to work through it, with the guidance of a skilled writing professor.
Finding inspiration is not always easy, but, researchers say that the more we create, our minds become more open and receptive to invention, ingenuity and artistry. I suppose this explains why “mad scientists” who come up with one great idea to patent, often go on to explore and invent other key concepts to copyright. Authors, after writing one book, often find the motivation to continue, and write a second.
Imagine: How Creativity Works by Jonah Lehrer addresses how many factors in our lives nurture creativity. There is an interesting review in Psychology Today magazine that both questions and validates what Lehrer says in his book. To read the article, please visit this link. http://bit.ly/W7A4xh.
There is also a good article for writers and artists on how to stay inspired. http://bit.ly/YlZKaS. Many people who live long, fulfilling lives attribute satisfying lives to the fact that they never stop growing and learning. Is there something you have always wanted do but haven’t dared to? Perhaps 2013 should be the year to pursue it.

”Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. ” ~Norman Vincent Peale
Diversity in culture makes our world so interesting. Christmas unites children around the globe in emotions of expectancy and hope, awaiting a visit from Santa or St. Nick. In Belgium and France, Pere Noel is revered. Kerstmann comes to the Netherlands and Weihnachtsmann(Christmas Man) comes to Germany. In the United Kingdom children await the arrival of Father Christmas and Grandfather Frost (Ded Moroz) comes to Russia.
This day before Christmas Eve, I would like to share some beautiful faces of children awaiting Christmas around the globe. Worldwide, some children’s dreams are fulfilled, thanks to generous people and organizations such as Operation Shoebox. To read more about the organization Samaritan’s Purse, please follow this link. http://bit.ly/T6T4kl .
Return tomorrow to All Things Fulfilling for one more message for Christmas Eve.
Is he here yet?
No peaking!

Children in Ethopia, faithfully awaiting the story of Christmas

Operation Shoebox, organized by Samaritan’s Purse delivers smiles to children all over the globe

Scandanavian Children in native garb ready to celebrate

Beaming all things beautiful

No doubt about their heritage

In Peru, children as sweet as the lambs they hold.

Merry Christmas and blessings to you, too!

Sisters from Guatamala herald in Christmas together

Appropriately dressed and waiting

The Gift of Education

Hands together in hope, faith and grace

Worshipping the Animals

Children – the light of the world.

“Christmas is the season for kindling the fire of hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart.” ~ Washington Irving
On Friday I posted photos of my walking tour in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I had given myself permission to enjoy the day doing something different, in celebration of my 1,000th blog on All Things Fulfilling.
Today I continue with more photographic images of Ski Town U.S.A., and over the weekend Mother Nature left us with a fresh coat of white, which was greatly appreciated by this tourist town that relies on winter recreation of all kinds.
My husband and I are grateful to live in such a beautiful and inspiring place, with gorgeous landscapes. Join me on this tour of historic Lincoln Avenue. The town has been bedecked, bedazzled and looks forward to welcoming all. It’s a very friendly place. Thanks for those who let me photograph their spaces.
Steamboat Art Company, offering wonderful coffee table art books and unique hand hooked wool pillows from Chandler 4 Corners , designed by Laura Megroz.

Center for Visual Arts, the CVA is a (501)(c)(3) nonprofit organization and community art center. Their mission is to support emerging artists , provide exhibition space, educate through guest artist series and work with youth.

Homesteader Kitchen Shop, specialty food items and wonderful kitchen gadgets and accessories.

Nutcrackers Stand at Attention in the Windows, Handsome Fellows!

Oh, look! The winter exhibition at the Steamboat Art Museum begins December 21st – a Retrospective of painter Jean Perry and sculptor Curtis Zabel. Can’t wait to check it out.
Photo Below: Lyon’s Drugs and alot more! Great gifts also.

Photos above and below, more gift suggestions from Off the Beaten Path, the Indie Bound Bookstore in town.

Branches – home decor and accessories. Pictured above and below.

This town in filled with businesses of all kinds, including a host of location neutral businesses and people with lots of entrepreneurial spirit. Makes living here, very interesting.
