“Do the thing and you will be given the power.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am feeling especially optimistic today. I am succeeding in fulfilling my goals in writing. This winter, I thought to myself “At the very latest, I would like to have the first draft of my story completed by the end of the summer. I am ahead of schedule!
The second draft is now finished. Time to share it with a few select others who I feel confident can help me and give me an honest opinion of what I have written. I really look forward to their positive criticism. I am tough. I can take it. Without the feedback of others, I am too close to the story, to know what is lacking and what might make for a more fulfilling read.
The narrative has come together relatively quickly, because I believe it has been formulating in my mind, throughout an entire lifetime. Still, some days it flows and other days……well, I get off the fast track! I suppose that happens to everyone. I try to dust myself off and get back on track as quickly as possible, while my heart is still in it.
Since last fall or winter I have been reading my manuscript to the Steamboat Writers Group, weekly. As I’ve finished a segment, I’ve shared it but not necessarily in any particular order. Invaluable suggestions have come from the group, which have helped me immensely. I like getting the opinions and critique of others and would highly recommend if you are writing a book, to find a group that will listen and critique what you have written. It is all part of the writing process.
If you are considering writing a book, here is an article that can help direct you through the beginning steps. http://bit.ly/6LP0tL .
