Film Friday: Fireproof

June 29, 2012

“The fire of glory is the torch of the mind.” ~ Unknown

The wildfires of Colorado are getting a lot of national media attention. Every time I flip through the channels, images of raging flames are in front of me. Thankfully, I live about three hours from where the majority of them have started.

Today, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight an independent film that came out in theatres in 2008. It garnered media attention as being the #1 inspirational movie of the year. Fireproof, a movie featuring Kirk Cameron has the element of fire as the basis of the story, but it is about so much more than that.  Themes around commitment, faith and dangerous work sparked conversations in communities of people, because it was is reflective of “real life issues” that families face.

This production, ultimately a tale of hope, was brought to the screen by Sherwood Pictures, the moviemaking ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church fromAlbany,Georgia. It can be ordered through www.imdb.com.

You do not have to be a “faith-filled” person to enjoy this film – but the outcome of the story will have you believing in the power of marriage.

Our prayers go out this Film Friday to families who have lost their homes in Colorado, New Mexico and other areas susceptible to fire due to extreme draught that is said to be the worst in more than 100 years. Lack of water, wind and nature’s power makes conditions very dangerous. As the 4th of July approaches, if you are in an area that has banned fireworks, please comply. Keep your family and others safe!
