This past weekend was Mustang Rally in Steamboat Springs,Colorado. Ford Mustang cars back to the earliest days of production were represented in the weekend’s parade and exhibition. Newer models of muscle cars with the hottest features were on show, too. 

As we strolled up and down Lincoln Avenue admiring the cars, you could see the pride on the owner’s faces. Many fulfilling hours and  years had been put into the restoration of the older cars. 

 One of the Mustang owners had creatively documented in a hardcover, self-published photo book the entire story of restoring his vehicle from start to finish. It was a valuable glimpse into the process of car restoration for those, like me, who know very little about how much work and lovin’ care goes into bringing the antique cars back to their original state. Personal fulfillment in tackling a project that took years to complete, was made evident through the publication. The book was proudly displayed on an easel, and the book cover design was made to match the exterior design of the car. Pretty neat! 

When I spied the book, I couldn’t help but think of how far developers have come in providing desk top publishing software that is user friendly. The use of independent publishing, in this digital world, is limited only by our own imaginations. Storytelling through independent publishing, for the sake of rejuvenating and restoring heart, soul and spirit, is now available to anyone. 

In these changing economic times, independent publishing has also become a way for people to creatively reinvent themselves and to expand or compliment their existing businesses. It is for these very reasons the independent publishing industry is growing so rapidly.
