Fighting to Move Beyond

Don’t be afraid to move on and start a new chapter. ~Unknown

Welcome back if you visited All Things Fulfilling yesterday.  Remember, tomorrow evening is the premiere of the new blog radio talk show I mentioned in yesterday’s post called Living a Richer Life. Since I have already read author and holistic healer Karen Gilroy’s book Nourishing the Healer Within, I’ll bet a topic of conversation will be the importance  of having a positive attitude to maintain overall good health of  mind, body and spirit.

Debbie Zoubs coverToday, I’d like to introduce you to a book written by Debbie Zoub, MSW.  The title of Zoub’s book Stands With Fists: Moving Beyond Psychological and Verbal Abuse refers to Zoub’s fighting determination to deal with the pain and shame of abuse in her past. She has battled hard to change her attitudes towards it so the experience no longer controls her life. Admittedly, she says the “work is difficult” and her “discovery and recovery” may be different than someone else’s. Zoub says by “knowing better, you can do better” and not allow yourself to be debased by others. The book begins with a set of questions to help the reader determine whether they are in an abusive situation.

Zoub, a clinical social worker, encourages her clients and readers, who relate to her story, to deal with the “conflicts, denial or unconscious efforts to hide” the injustice they have been dealt so they can begin to heal and change their life story in a positive direction.

Stands with Fists was written so others will not feel alone and as a resource for therapists to use when working with abuse cases. Although approaching the subject matter is difficult, Zoub’s candor in relating her experience with her abusive mother will help others to open up and begin a valuable discussion.

Above all, it is evident that through her own journey of healing, Zoub has found forgiveness and love for her mother. She credits her mom for helping her to appreciate a good education and some other finer things she’s enjoyed in her upbringing.  Clearly, now that Zoub has put a voice to her experience, she has begun living a more fulfilling life. In March, Debbie Zoub will be featured on the blog talk radio show, Living a Richer Life. I will keep you posted as the time gets closer of the exact time and date.

Order Stands with Fists now, so you can prepare your questions for the author and ask them when you listen to the radio show. The book is available as an e-book through Smashwords  bit.ly/1n3E8ws,  and can also be ordered through Amazon.com http://amzn.to/1dfq7pG and  Barnes and Noble bit.ly/1dTx2oE.
