“We look at each other wondering what the other is thinking but we never say a thing.” ~ Dave Matthews Band
I decided to do a little research over the weekend. I wanted to know what things men most frequently write about. Guess what – my research fell flat! I searched all over the internet with terms such as – subjects men like to write about, most frequently published subjects by men, most popular genres of books published by men. I could not find one thing that gave me insight into my inquiry.
Being of the other gender, I am truly interested in this subject. What do men like to write about? I have my suspicions but, don’t go there! Men and women are on two different planets when it comes to communication, thus the subjects male independent publishers like to write about is almost guaranteed to be different than the subjects women like to write about. After all, due to our differences in genetic make-up, the way each gender is raised and the chemistry of our brains, we go through life with completely different points of view.
I want to be an equal opportunity blogsite! My slant has been far too focused on women and women’s issues. Having grown up with two brothers, I can converse on a number of subjects, you would be surprised. But, please of all things, do not ask me to blog about car mechanics, football or nuclear particle accelerators!! Ask me about fishing! I have done alot of that in my lifetime, and I even know how to clean them!
Help me out here, what do men most frequently like to write about?

That’s a great choice of photo, Sue! Thank you for another entertaining post.
Dan writes a blog, and this time of year it is almost exclusively a “journal” of his skiing. At other times, he writes about Australian Rules Football, developments in computer technology, political and economic issues, and our travels.
He may one day try his hand at writing a science fiction novel.
Thanks for the insight, Marie! That is exactly what I was interested in knowing -what some men like to write about! Question – Australian rules football- is that soccer, rugby or conventional US type football? Educate me!
You may have just proved my point – I wonder if there are any women writing about Australian Rules Football-perhaps? I doubt it!
Sue, I see you’ve already written your follow-up to this post, and I’m sorry for the delayed reply to your question about Australian Rules Football. I should have Dan explain it in more detail, but here is a brief overview: it’s a completely separate game from soccer, rugby or American football. Each team has 18 players. They use an oval-shaped ball, similar to a rugby ball. It’s played in the Australian autumn/winter: April to September. There are local leagues, but the major competition is a national league. The states of Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania, and the Capital Territory and the Northern Territory, are the big fans of Australian Rules Football. Rugby is the more popular football code in New South Wales and Queensland, but both of those states also have a team each in the national Australian Rules competition. A match consists of 4 quarters of 20 minutes each + added time if the clock is stopped for ball repositioning or by referee decision. It’s a very fast and physical game, and the players don’t wear any body protection – only a mouthguard. Although it’s a male oriented/dominated sport, some of the biggest and most vocal fans are women, and there is at least one female sports reporter on TV I know of who covers some matches. There is now also at least one female umpire.
Thank you for bringing me up to speed on Australian football. Very interesting that it is entirely a different sport than soccer, rugby or American football. Perhaps Dan would like to share with me by return comment if he has a blogsite for Australian football fans that he posts to. He may garner a following of fans in Victoria, So. Australia, Western Australia and beyond, blogging about the various teams and their activities and rankings throughout the season – that is while he is away from his blogsite http://steamboatdreaming.blogspot.com/
and away from skiing in Steamboat Springs, Colorado!
