The Power of Words and Images

Art is not in some far-off place. A work of Art is the expression of a man’s whole personality, sensibility and ability.” ~ Japanese Proverb by Shinichi Suzuki

Last week I received quite a number of birthday greetings – all from people using different types of electronic communication. Some “Good Wishes” came from as far away as:

  • Finland
  • Macedonia
  • France
  • Bangkok
  • Africa
  • Belgium
  • Argentina

Not looking for accolades or congratulations, just trying to make a point in today’s blog posting. Other people who use social media probably get the same kind of attention from their on-line networks of people.

Many “hellos” were from individuals I have been building community with in one way or another through this blog site All Things Fulfilling or by other on-line communication.

For some reason, people have been touched by words I have written, information I have shared or  by images I have put out there into cyberspace and it has traveled. I am not sure why people latch onto it and like it but I am delighted and humbled.

The point is – never underestimate the power of words and images and how they can travel. Be careful and be sensitive – they may end up in places you never expected.

What does that mean for those who publish electronically? The e-book industry is just beginning to show us the possibilities.

For those who think that internet marketing is ineffective and a big time waster, it can be. But, learning how to use digital content effectively to reach people with like interests is important.

I used to share my birthdays with my twin sister, but through social media, I have found others who celebrate their day of birth on the same day as we do. HAPPY  BIRTHDAY TO ALL AUGUST BIRTHDAY BABIES.

This wonderful art work is by Kagaya. Here is the website so you can see more. http://bit.ly/5YcO3f

Writers: Explore and Navigate

The two most engaging powers of an author are to make new things familiar and familiar things new.  ~Samuel Johnson

Throughout the history of mankind, there have been explorers in all kinds of fields – medicine, business, science, space, technology, publishing, communication and more. The pioneering spirit is driven by hope for fulfillment through research, prospecting, investigation and discovery.

When an individual is exploring possibilities of writing a book, producing a film or music the impetus behind the mission is to create with words, images or audio sounds an original idea. Researching what has been done before, and devising a plan independent of the “the same old, same old” is not an easy task. In publishing, finding a contemporary way of communicating thoughts and ideas is what constructing a successful publication is about. There is a company that can help create a plan for your idea and find a novel way of sharing it. For more information, please visit http://bit.ly/h7EukB

Moreover, shaping a marketing campaign, that communicates the originality of your published projected, is essential.  If you will be selling your publication on the world-wide-web, and have never navigated the waters of internet marketing, there are professionals that specialize in e-marketing for independent publishers. Have we Met Before?

“Books are the best of things if well used; if abused, among the worst. They are good for nothing but to inspire.”    ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Increasingly businesses are stepping into the arena of e-marketing. It is a whole new tactic of promoting products, services, individuals and companies in the business world. Knowing how to use internet marketing effectively is key.

I read something the other day that made me think there may a fulfilling reason to communicate with people on-line,  that I had never considered before.  According to a study in the journal Cognition, http://bit.ly/hRtWxK our ability to remember faces peaks between ages 30 and 34. People 35 years and older are now finding there are ways to put faces and names together over the internet.   Maybe that explains why kids are no longer the only ones connecting on the world-wide-web. Am I over-thinking it by saying “the younger generation is compassionate and are developing ways of connecting faces and names, on-line, to help out their forgetful elders ?”  Perhaps!

The viral world is helping to connect people around the world through meet-up groups, too.  People with similar business interests can now get together on-line or arrange “face to face” meetings.

Denver is home to the nation’s largest meet-up group in the country. The group is comprised of creative professionals www.meetup.com/creative-connections. It has a growing membership of over 1,000 strong. So large is this group, they meet at the Colorado Community Church http://www.coloradocommunity.org/ , a facility that can accommodate all. Creative Connections draws Artists (all forms), writers, photographers,  marketing and advertising creatives. Professionals who make their living through TV, the internet, radio and video production also attend the twice weekly meetings.

If you have a specific career interest, and are looking for opportunities to meet up with like-minded people, connect through www.meetup.com.

Plotting the Course

We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate”                                           ~  Ralph Waldo Emerson

The words of poet, philosopher, orator and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson have endured because of the wisdom and insight he had into the independent spirit. Transcendentalist and idealist that he was, he well understood how we are all fulfilled by different things in life. He also “got it” when it came to literature, too! His comprehension of how to eloquently use words to move us, worked well.

One of the biggest advantages of independent publishing, is the ability to plot an individual and “private chart” for marketing a book or film. However, in order to be successful, one must have vision, understand capturing an audience, know how to market and how to tap into it. In this day and age of internet selling, the willingness to step into marketing tactics that are creative and non-traditional is important and necessary.

If you are a person who enjoys the writing process, but do not consider yourself e-commerce (internet) savvy, there is no reason to be concerned. There are freelance consultants that can help design a course of sales and marketing action for your book. The aim will be to become more visible to your potential buyers so you can increase opportunities for sales.

Wisdom dictates that it is never too early to begin plotting the course for your voyage for your independently published book or film. Be smart – start right now! Search the internet for companies who specialize in e-commerce and e-marketing for independent publishers.

Stretch Your Face!

Friends have all things in common.” ~ Plato

Geezum, Crow! Did I ever have my hands full on Friday! It was my birthday and I got inundated with “Happy Birthday Greetings” from  friends all over the globe!  One from Germany, several from Canada, Paris, Norway,  a few from the U.K., New Zealand, Boznia, Australia and even Macedonia, what more could I want? There were messages written by  friends from all across these United States, too!

My point is really not to crow about my number of  friends. My point here is the value of e-marketing and social media marketing for business. You can reach communities of people, with like interests, all over the universe, through the power of the internet.  My  friends include people who through their own creativity have independent businesses. They are writers, filmmakers, painters, printmakers, independent publishers, just to start the list.

Some are just friends, caring not that my company provides services for independent publishers, but about me. And you know what? Never underestimate the value of others when it comes to helping to spread the news over the internet! Viral communication travels far, wide and fast – through computers, cell phones, digital cameras and the like.

In case you are not aware – business has taken on a whole new dimension through the internet! If you are an independent publisher who has not yet become comfortable with the new age of e-commerce and e-marketing, won’t you feel better to be moving ahead into something exciting, fresh and new, rather than feeling stagnant and stuck in the past?

Even if you are some other kind of business owner, it does not matter! The principles are still the same – becoming more visible to a community of people who share the same interests as you do! What are you waiting for my friend, what are you waiting for? Low cost – far reaching is what it is all about.
